I am demonstrating inking and printing using a 'Little Thumper' press at Wolverhampton Art Gallery - Saturday 13 November, 10.30-2.30
I am demonstrating inking and printing using a 'Little Thumper' etching press, thanks to Ironbridge Fine Arts who are loaning it to me. My own trusty Gunning press is rather big to move and transport but the Little Thumper is beautifully compact.
I will be upstairs in Wolverhampton Art Gallery from 10.30-2.30 if you would like to come and have a look.
Some people ask me why do I print? In some ways it is more complicated because when you print from a printing plate onto paper the image is reversed. You have to make your image on a plate (a piece of sheet metal, lino, perspex or wood), then apply ink to your plate, put it on the bed of the press, place paper on top of it and then crank it through the press.
Isn't painting more straightforward?
I will attempt to explain my love of printmaking on Saturday.

The Dead Mask Project - now showing at Atlantic Studios Gallery, Boston, Massachusetts (July 15-August 21 2021)
CUrrent EXHIBITION - The Dead Mask project
Shot between January and July of 2021, the images show pathos and humor, elegance and disarray – life as we know it in a pandemic. The mask motif brings us together in these strange isolating times. ‘
'The Dead Mask Project' is now showing at Atlantic Studios Gallery, Boston, Massachusetts (July 15-August 21, 2021)
The exhibition is a collection of photos from over 60 artists from 15 countries. The photographs must be of discarded face masks as found objects, 'as is' in their environment.
I was delighted to be invited to take part in this project and submitted photographs taken in Staithes (Yorkshire), Shrewsbury (Shropshire) and Wolverhampton (West Midlands).

Linda Nevill would love to
be in any of these landscapes again whether in sunshine or snow, on a clifftop
overlooking the sea or high in the hills.
These are her responses to a range of landscapes evoking memories of,
amongst other things, the softness of heather, the searing heat on the coastal
path, the tingling of ice and the crunching of footsteps in snow.
Working in all weathers to
make plein air sketches and studies she works with these and photographs to
create finished pieces.
For this exhibition she has
worked with vibrant soft pastels
